Pickles with the full natural flavor of vegetables
Katojun is a Japanese pickle shop located near Kamo River, a little north of Nijo Street. Word of mouth among Kyoto locals and restaurants has made Katojun popular and now their name is known throughout Japan as one of Kyoto’s best pickle shops. This is the only place that you can purchase Katojun’s pickles. No matter how popular their pickles have become, the owner has never considered having branches because he continues to love to see his customers’ faces. No sugar is used for their pickles so they taste light and refreshing. Just the right balance of salt highlights the natural flavor of vegetables. It is also fun to discover your favorite one from amongst the wide variety of pickles. The photo is of the Asazuke Katsura Shiro Uri (lightly pickled Katsura white gourd; 110 g; 525 yen), which is only available from later April to the end of August.
