    Awata Jinja Shrine

    Pray for safe travel from western Japan along the ancient Tokai-do Road

    Awata Jinja Shrine is located as the starting point in the east of Kyoto where travelers leaving the ancient capital to start their trip along the Tokai-do Road to Tokyo, and it is still the home for the god of traffic safety for travelers to this present day.This shine has a great view of Mt. Hiei and Mt. Atago as it is situated on a hill. Also, during the Okuribi ritual fire event in August, the fires of Hidari Daimonji and Funa-gata can be seen. Pray for a safe and successful journey at this shrine.
