Chasen made of green bamboo providing a fresh and fragrant taste to tea

Kikkodo opened in 1870 and has been running a shop specialized in tools for the tea ceremony.  Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco, has also visited here before.  Many varieties of old fabrics from the Nishijin district and Tatsumura Bijutsu (a company specialized in fabric manufacturing) are available along with the items for both tea ceremony and tea ceremony practice.  The chasen (tea ceremony utensil for whisking green tea) made of green bamboo is used especially in the Hatsugama (first tea ceremony held in January) and New Year’s tea ceremony.  Their different varieties of chasen are all handmade by a craft person in Nara.  You are sure to find a beautiful piece, which you can use for tea ceremony and in everyday life.  The photo is of the chasen made of green bamboo “Kazuho” (left; 3,465 yen) and “Ma-chasen” (right; 3,780 yen).
