Cozy Japanese café run by a Japanese sweet shop
This café is run by an established Japanese sweet shop, Tsuruya Chosei in the Saga and Arashiyama area on the west side of Kyoto city. There are always a variety of Japanese sweets and customers can take a table and savor them in their café. Sitting amongst the classical Japanese architecture furnished with wooden stairs, low tables and Japanese cushions, diners can enjoy anmitsu (jelly and fruit in syrup topped with sweet red bean paste), kuzukiri (strips of jelly made from kudzu starch; summer only), shiratama zenzai (rice dumplings in sweet red bean soup) as well as some light meals such as udon noodles and pieces of sushi. One of the recommended menu items is warabi mochi flavored with soybean powder and matcha green tea power, which is OK to take-away too.
