Addictive savory spices
Gion Ajiko specializes in their originally blended Japanese spices. One, known as “Golden Spice”, that uses yellowish chili pepper (870 yen; 13 g) was already very popular in Kyoto in the mid-Edo period (1600-1868) and is recognized today as Japan’s hottest chili spice. The secret is a kind of chili pepper which is said to be 10 times as hot as general red chili pepper. Only a little sprinkle of “Golden Spice” adds extreme hotness to the dish and such a deep flavor and taste that it is like a magical combination of spiciness and savory. Many other food item producers in Japan wish to collaborate with Ajiko and add a new variety of their items using Ajiko’s spices. One is a condiment for rice produced by a company in Nagoya, which is available at Ajiko too.
