Japanese style bar quietly standing in a stone-paved alleyway of Gion
This authentic Japanese-style bar stands between Hanamikoji and Naware Street on a stone-paved alleyway known Kiridoshi, noticeable only by a modest sign bearing its name. Without directions, one might think it is an ochaya (an establishment where patrons are entertained by geiko). However, Aoi is an authentic bar located inside a renovated machiya (traditional town house) from the Taisho period (1912-1926). The bottles and glasses are hidden away; creating a sophisticated atmosphere similar to a tea ceremony room that respects simplicity. Visitors will surely feel the special hospitality from their very first visit to this bar.
