    Japanese cuisine in Teppan-yaki style; something for everyone

    Mr. Takaaki Seki, the owner and chef of Gion Ichido, created a new genre of cuisine in Gion: Teppan Kappo, Japanese cuisine in teppan-yaki style.  He trained himself at a teppan-yaki restaurant in a first class hotel and became independent in June 2011.  What is Teppan Kappo?  His style follows the teppan-yaki technique – grilling food on an iron plate – instead of using conventional cooking methods.  For example, a popular winter dish in Japan is yellowtail and white radish simmered in a pan.  However, Takaaki grills them perfectly on the iron plate with precision timing.  From appetizer to soup, every dish served contains both Japanese and western elements.  The main dish is a cut of beef fillet and the portion is perfect for a satisfactory but not overfilling meal.
