Only 8 counter seats available for a delicate and artistic feast
There is a calligraphy signboard in the restaurant on which a renowned calligrapher, Kyuyo Ishikawa, wrote the name of the restaurant, Gion Matayoshi. People who gather here are gourmets who know where to go for a delicious meal. Starting with elegantly presented assorted appetizers (hassun), the course proceeds to seasonal sashimi (raw fish), a bowl of clear soup and so on. The owner and chef previously worked as the head chef of a famous ryokan inn, Sumiya. There is no doubt that his cooking skills are supremely reliable along with his eye in selecting the best ingredients and knowing how to create the best dish from them.
