Gozen Bento lunch box fascinating people for many years
The owner and chef of Gion Masumuro, Mr. Harutaka Matsumuro, formerly worked at Kyoto’s representative ryotei (high-class Japanese restaurant), Hyotei. His authentic cooking skills and sincere heart for every dish he creates is evidence of his background. The restaurant is located near Chion-in Temple which is one of the popular sites for cherry blossom viewing in Spring, and people visiting Chion-in Temple for the cherry blossom season come and get a take-away bento lunch box from Matsumuro for their company. Surprisingly, the Gozen Bento contains as many as 20 different kinds of dishes: White fish fried with rice flour, grilled trout, leaves of field mustard seasoned with spicy miso paste, and more. Green peas are sometimes mixed in with the rice, adding more “spring” relish to the lunch box.
