Outstanding kappo-style restaurant in Gion
The Gion area, especially Hanamikoji Street, is the so-called battleground of fine restaurants in Kyoto. Even though it is located in such a competitive area, Gion Namba is still acclaimed to be an outstanding Japanese restaurant. What makes Nanba different from many others is the chef, Mr. Namba’s incredible originality in his cooking. One of the winter special dishes is blowfish milt steamed with sake and topped with turnip mousse and yuzu (Japanese citrus) dressing. His dishes are always based on traditional fare yet are never without some new and original touch which never ceases to surprise diners. He always presents a few dishes in typically classical style as well. Guests will surely agree that his balance between “classical” and challenging new is just right.
