Casual diner in historical Miyagawacho
The building used to be an ochaya (where maiko and geiko live and work) in Miyagawacho, one of the five kagai (maiko and geiko districts) in Kyoto. Some people might think that this restaurant is expensive and formal, as is true of many kagai, but don’t worry. Gohanya Shinkiro serves casual dishes like those eaten at home every day. Their set of the day includes one main dish, simmered dried white radish, pickles seasoned with mayonnaise, homemade dried little fish and more - all cooked by their chef, Mr. Matsumoto. A set menu like the Sashimi Set and Tempura Set are available during lunchtime. If you have only a short time to spare, order one of their rice bowls for a quick but nutritious meal.
