Rice bowl dish with fried conger eel cooked with traditional kaiseki technique
Gosho Ungetsu is located on the east side of the Imperial Palace (Gosho), on Teramachi Street. Offering a classical Japanese atmosphere, here diners can experience traditional kaiseki haute cuisine. The restaurant is very popular and it is especially hard to take a seat during cherry blossom season in spring. A recommended menu item is “Rice bowl topped with conger eel tempura with Kamigamo vegetable miso soup”. The conger tempura is crispy outside and fluffy inside and comes with a Kyoto-style delicate broth. The soup contains plenty of local vegetables. It costs only 1,200 yen with a dessert (warabi-mochi; Japanese jelly-like sweet). The lunch kaiseki course is from 3,000 yen. Sea kelp (Komatsu Konbu) served with tea is available for take away and many customers purchase to bring home or as a gift for their friends.
