    Bite-size gyoza filled with vegetables

    This beloved restaurant in Gion specializes in gyoza, or Chinese jiao-zi dumplings.  They have more than 700 names on their delivery list including ochaya (an establishment where patrons are entertained by geiko) and restaurants.  Since moving in June 2013 to a machiya (traditional style town house) in Gion, they have expanded the menu to include such dishes as clam soup, stir-fried meat and bean sprouts in miso sauce and rice balls.  Eating at the restaurant as well as enjoying their delivery service is also very popular.  The thin-skinned bite size dumplings are filled with shredded vegetables and their slight sweetness goes well with both their standard sauce as well as miso sauce.  The light taste also makes this dish suitable for a meal or snack even when it is late at night.  The ginger-flavor dumpling without garlic is particularly popular among geiko (traditional Japanese female entertainers) and maiko (geiko apprentice).
