    Hyakumanben Chion-ji Temple

    Popular monthly handicraft market

An important Buddhist priest, Honen, opened a Buddhist school at this location.  After he passed away, one of his disciples lived here and constructed a temple hall for his teacher and named it Chion-ji.  Today, this temple is very popular among young people for the monthly handicraft market held every 15th of the month.  One of the temple rituals is Buddhist Rosary Handling.  In this ritual, monks line up and chant a Buddhist sutra holding a huge rosary.  Visitors are welcome to join the ritual and many people visit the temple at this time.
