Hidden comfort behind a back lane offering the special experience

A famous ryokan inn in Kyoto, Gion Hatanaka, started this new style lodging.  An old machiya building was fully renovated and reborn as a stylish Japanese-modern accommodation in October 2012.  It is located on a narrow back lane as if it were a hidden place.  “We are close to very popular tourist sites like Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Kodai-ji Temple, but it is incredibly quiet at night,” said their concierge, Ms. Kazue Ozaki.  Originally, this place was a residential building but a full renovation was undertaken to recreate it as sophisticated modern accommodation while keeping some structures from the original building.  Only one accommodation each on the first floor and second floor is available in the suite style with a living room, a Japanese room and a bedroom.  The kitchen is set in the room so a family staying with children is also accepted.  Wine chosen by their sommelier can be ordered through room service.  One of the special treats is their breakfast.  Dishes are prepared by their experienced chef of “Kamikura,” the restaurant located on the basement floor of the building.  About 10 dishes will be served that use a full selection of Kyoto specialties including grilled flat fish from Wakasa Bay and Shogoin Kabura turnip.  They also prepare steaming-hot rice at the time you request.
