Original matcha green tea sweets served in the best Uji tea area
Itohkyuemon is one of the most well known Uji tealeaf shops dating from the late Edo period (1600-1868). There is a café space next to the shop where people can try savory and aromatic sweets using the top quality Uji tealeaves. Freshly ground tealeaves have both a slight sweetness and bitterness. The fine taste of green tea matches well with the sweetness of red bean paste and rice dumplings, both of which are made with strictly selected ingredients. It is not rare to find a long queue in front of the café on weekends. Many of their sweets are OK to take-away too.
