Kamaboko fish cake specialty shop in Gion for 160 years
Izuman is an old shop which opened in 1844 located on the street leading from the atmospheric Gion Shinbashi street to Chion-in Temple. They serve kamaboko fish cake using only fresh fish as its ingredients. Good kamaboko have a unique texture and flavor. Even with their discriminating sense of taste, people in Gion have praised and loved Izuman’s kamaboko for many years. One of the kamaboko, “Higashiyama Gyohei”, is the most popular selection that is particularly favored by men. Skewer them on a bamboo stick and grill briefly to bring out the fresh, natural taste of fish – this is the key that constantly has attracted people to their kamaboko. In contrast, “Gion Arare” is popular among women. Four kinds of elegantly colored kamaboko, for example, green with natural tansy leaf and brown with mirin rice wine, are assorted in one box. The flavor varies every day so that even regular customers will never fail to enjoy a different taste. It is also recommended to try kamaboko with soy sauce, grated ginger and wasabi (spicy horse radish). Izuman is the perfect place to bring a party and share with your friends.
