Home-style cooking using Miyama’s vegetables and blessings of nature
Kamiya was named in honor of housewives working at home (“kami” in Japanese, a honorable term to call a housewife). Of course, the person who is responsible to all works in the kitchen is the female manager, so-called Okami-san. She takes care of the kitchen and provides home-style cooking that people never get tired eating every day. Her menu is based on the recipes her mother-in-law who was good at cooking at home. They purchase pesticide-free or reduced pesticide organic vegetables, rice, wild vegetables, river fish and chicken from her husband’s home town in Miyama, so that their ingredients are fresh and rustic but full of taste from the soil. Their original seasonal menu including a small pot dish of hanazansho (flower of the Japanese pepper), and a mojito using home-grown mint with a strong taste are recommended. You will have a good time talking with the owner about Miyama or their cuisine while drinking Japanese sake and shochu (distilled liquor) at the counter.
