Unique sweets fusing Japanese and Italian taste
Rakuraku is located on Hanamikoji Street in the heart of Gion, Kyoto’s most traditional and historical street. A popular French restaurant in Kameoka City is the owner company of Rakuraku. On the second floor of a classical machiya townhouse, Rakuraku welcomes people with original fine sweets. The room used to be a private bar for customers to enjoy dinner and entertainment by maiko and geiko. Rakuraku offers fine sweets for adults, keeping the sweetness to a minimum and using fine ingredients. Their recipes are a unique fusion of Japanese and Italian created by experienced Kyoto cuisine and Italian chefs working in the next-door restaurant. Gelato using fine black bean powder from the Tamba region, kanten jelly flavored with roasted Japanese tea, and parfait with tube cake using extremely delicate sugar are the top three popular items. Anmitsu (jelly and fruits topped with sweet red bean paste) and assorted sweets are also recommended.
