A little Japanese sweet shop in a back lane
Located in Gion, one of Kyoto’s most popular tourist areas, Kansendo is hard to discover, as it is located in a back lane. This long-established shop has no outstanding characteristics but has gained trust from their customers for their simple yet perfect Japanese sweets made by an experienced staff. Some items are displayed in the little showcase at the front of the shop. The most popular item is “Goshiki Monaka,” the assorted five sweet dumplings, which are filled with different flavors of sweet bean paste (plain, citrus, miso soy bean paste, etc.). The faint color of the fillings is delicate and beautiful. Sweet red bean jelly is available from early April to September (1,900 yen/piece), followed by one with chestnuts as the autumn and winter flavor.
