Quaintly elegant and cute Kyoto-style items
Karan Colon Kyoto is run by Kyoto’s old shoe shop, “Itochu,” which has an over 100 year history. The name of the shop, “Karan Colon,” comes from the sound that is heard when walking on a stone-paved street with Japanese wooden clogs (geta) – such a classical sound of Kyoto. Karan Colon presents a variety of cute and unique items, from furoshiki wrapping cloth, gamaguchi coin cases to kinchaku drawn string bags, that blend the old nostalgic feeling of Japan with modern and pop cuteness. Particularly, they take special care when they choose colors from the weaving or dyeing process for the item’s fabric. New articles are produced every season so that their regular fans will find something new every time they visit the shop. One of their popular items is a handkerchief with auspicious embroidery designs of the New Year’s motif (630 yen); a perfect gift to bring someone at the end or beginning of the year.
