Carefully selected salted and dried seafood highly trusted by the local Kyoto people
Kigen was established in 1910. Sockeye salmon from Nemuro in Hokkaido and Japanese flat fish from Hamada in Kyoto are their main products, though they also offer many types of dried and fresh seafood as well. You can find many ingredients for making “Obanzai (typical Kyoto style home dishes)” in this shop. As a highly trusted shop by the locals, they carefully select their products from different production areas. At the end and the beginning of the year, the shop is crowded with people buying Bodara (dried cod), Kazunoko (salted herring eggs), Nishin (herring) and Karasumi (botargo). Above all, fatty “Aramaki-zake (salted whole salmon)” from Nemuro in Hokkaido is one of the most popular items for gifts from this shop.
