A pottery studio on Kiyomizu-zaka Street producing beautiful and elegant ceramics
Koson-gama is a Japanese pottery studio located on Gojo-zaka Street, more commonly known as Chawan-zaka Street, where many fine shops and studios of Kyoto’s Kiyomizu-yaki pottery can be found. Koson-gama was opened around 1912. Today the third generation craftsman, Koson Hayashi and his daughter, Yuko, are continuing the tradition. They produce mainly white porcelain and blue celadon as well as other varieties of ceramics including plates, bowls, tea ceremony utensils and flower vases. Many people who prefer Koson-gama’s items are fans of delicate figures made of fine bone china. Their elegant and beautiful wares are used in many high-class Japanese restaurants or purchased as a distinctive gift for that special someone.
