     Kodaiji Wakuden

Enjoy traditional Japanese seasonal haute cuisine

Kodaiji Wakuden is the main restaurant, situated near the entrance of Kodai-ji Temple. This is a“Sukiya-zukuri style house” (influenced by the style of tea-ceremony houses), and was originally built as a house for the headmaster of the Onoe School, the building is still retains its dignified beauty.  You can enjoy excellent seasonal Kyoto cuisine and also appreciate superb hospitality, and the seasonal arrangements make you feel cooler in summer and warmer in winter.  In July, they serve cool green tea in a tea bowl using large ice blocks. Special elaborate decorations are arranged corresponding to the Gion Matsuri Festival theme. In the summer time, they offer hamo (pike eel) and summer vegetables that gives one a special hamo festival feeling.
