Handmade soba buckwheat noodles loved by geiko and maiko
Ukiya is an old soba buckwheat noodle restaurant opened in 1929. The main shop is located on the traditional Pontocho Street, one of Kyoto’s traditional geiko and maiko entertainment quarters. The third generation owner, Yasuharu Mishima, a recipient of the Medal with Yellow Ribbon from the government for his continuous contribution to Japanese culinary field, produces fine handmade noodles every day. His noodle dishes are very simple but full of his heartfelt desire to produce delicious food. In addition to casual set menus including a bowl of buckwheat noodles, Ukiya offers sukiyaki using Japanese black beef and full kaiseki courses.
