Essentials for every season at Kyoto’s table
Masugo is a Japanese pickle shop in the Nishiki Food Market. Colorful vegetables pickled in the wooden barrels are lined in front of the shop. It used to be a sake brewery but the previous owner started pickle production in 1930 and now they are well known as a pickle shop in Kyoto. Typical Kyoto-style pickles like Senmai-zuke (thinly sliced turnip), Maru Suguki (thinly sliced gourd skin), Mibu green leaf, red turnip, and other seasonal vegetables are carefully prepared by the experienced staff and always ready to go on the table.
