Japanese style ryokan in the maiko/geiko district – Warm hospitality and the gentle sound of Kamo River

Mifuku opened as a bed and breakfast ryokan Japanese-style inn with three rooms in 1950.  This building used to be a teahouse where maiko and geiko lived so that it nicely blends both classical Japanese atmosphere of Pontocho, one of the kagai districts.  There is a view of Kamo River and Higashiyama mountains from the two rooms.  You may feel freshened from the view of green trees and the sound of the river.  “Please make yourself at home and refreshed from the scenery of Kamo River,” says the landlady, Ms. Yukimi Inohara.  She prepares a Kyoto map and arranges a ticket of Kamogawa Odori (dance show by geiko and maiko in Pontocho), sometimes she gives good advice for her guests, so that many of them become regular guests because of her warm hospitality.  One family has been customers at her ryokan for over three generations. Yukimi’s mother prepares breakfast with the utmost care, which is a large volume of food including Obanzai (Kyoto-style home cooking) that makes you feel at home with their hospitality.
