Ogawa

Handmade Soba noodle restaurant of Kyoto

Ogawa is a handmade soba (buckwheat noodle) restaurant located to the west of the intersection of Kitayama and Horikawa Street.  The owner started making soba as a hobby and later received training at the famous soba restaurant, Daruma, in Toyama prefecture before opening his own restaurant in 2003.  The neat and cozy machiya (traditional townhouse) is visited by soba lovers from all round Japan.  The stone milled buckwheat is homemade carefully over time.  Their slightly green soba noodles have a solid yet smooth texture and an elegant flavor.  Do not miss their thick and flavorful soba-yu (hot water with slight flavor in which the noodles are cooked).

Translation to English by AD BRAIN INC., and introduced in “Oishii Kyoto 137” magazine, Fujin-gaho, July issue, 2010 and “Nenmatsu Kaidashi Guide” magazine, Fujin-gaho, January issue, 2012
