Explore the Kyoto’s countryside on foot

Ohara is a rural village located to the northeast of Kyoto City.  With famous historical sites such as Sanzen-in Temple and Jakko-in Temple, Ohara Sanso welcomes guests into a nostalgic Japanese atmosphere with a natural hot spring and hotpot dishes using plenty of local vegetables.  The owner, Hideyuki Yamamoto says, “I would recommend to enjoy the area by foot without using a car.  We have many good secret courses.”  Ohara Sanso is very conscious about the environment and is a member of a local eco-NPO promoting making compost.  They grow vegetables in their own field and cook them for their guests as well selling them in the local market.
