Feel the warmth of handmade Japanese washi print paper items
Pyon Pyon Do specializes in traditional handmade washi print paper items using washi (handmade Japanese paper) from the Kansai, Chugoku and Shikoku areas. Every sheet depicts hand-printed patterns which provide warmth to the holder’s hand. Kaishi is a small piece of washi paper mainly used in the tea ceremony, but actually it is used for many purposes such as to put a sweet on and as a plate decoration with a Japanese dish. Another special washi item from Kyoto is a small rectangular strip decorated with pretty seasonal flower patterns. This is used as a name card by maiko and geiko who inscribe their name on the paper. Pyon Pyon Do can make original name cards and is popular with many women who like to get their original Kyoto-style name cards created here. Small washi envelops with their original design are also popular as a gift wrapping when giving small items such as accessories, chocolates and candies.
