Respecting traditions and challenging to create new forms

Rokusei has served excellent Kyoto cuisine since opening in 1899 by the canal lined with cherry trees, which exhibit superb beauty in spring.  What made Rokusei famous was their Teoke Bento lunch box created by the previous owner.  Taking as long as six years, the present chef has succeeded in creating his own original course of cuisine based on the imperial style dishes served to the imperial family in the Heian period (794-1185).  Rokusei’s motto is to respect tradition and to challenge creating new forms.  As the chef wishes to provide perfect service and dishes for every customer, they have never opened a branch restaurant even though Rokusei has been quite popular.  Every dish their chef prepares reflects the seasonal transitions of Kyoto and entertains diners not only with their taste but also the beautiful dish presentation.  A children’s menu is also available.
