    AREA :

    Shinnyo-do Temple

Beautiful three-story Pagoda surrounded by autumn colored leaves

The main statue of this temple is Amida Nyorai, sculpted by the Buddhist priest, Jikaku.  The statue was enshrined in the temple on Mount Hiei but was relocated to its present location in 984.  The temple was relocated a few more times during the civil war time in the 15th century but finally settled in the present location in 1963.  The Amida Nyorai is worshipped as the deity of women.  The guardian statue standing by the Amida Nyorai is Fudo Myo-o which is believed to have saved an important court officer in the Heian period (794-1185).  There are two gardens.  One is “the Garden of Nirvana” and the other is “the Garden of Connection.”  Both spring and autumn visits are recommended to fully enjoy the beauty of this temple site.
