Cute retro Japanese snacks revived into the present
Sokyu offers Japanese snacks and sweets. Using fine ingredients and a minimum amount of additives, Sokyu’s snacks are simple but distinguished as the perfect accompaniment for Japanese tea. The shop is located on Kawabata Street by a stream lined with trees. Sokyu’s items look somewhat nostalgic but skillfully combine some Western elements as well. For example, the photo is of one of the popular items, fig dragée (680 yen). A whole piece of fig is dried and coated with sugar candy. The outside sugar is very crispy and inside the fig is soft and sweet; such a combination of different textures will make you unable to stop yourself having another one. Some of the items come with a pretty white ceramic container made in the early Showa period (1926-1988) - a perfect choice for a special gift for someone. Please ask the owner for the special ceramic containers.
