Only one in Kyoto: Traditional Japanese candles made with natural materials
Tanji Renshodo specializes in producing traditional Japanese candle and has served many temples of the Jodo Shin Sect for over 70 years. Their candles are made from an extract of the Japanese wax tree and all manufacturing processes are done by hand. The careful work by experienced craftsmen results in shiny and pure white candles. This is the only store in Kyoto offering such unique handmade candles. Compared to general candles made from oil, theirs produce much less soot when burnt and melted wax hardly runs down. There are a variety of sizes and designs but as a souvenir, small candles with seasonal flower design are recommended: Japanese candles: 945 yen.
