Secret sauce makes hamo even better – savor the true taste of Kyoto

Tanyoshi, located in Gion, has a connection with one of Kyoto’s established restaurants.  A recommended menu item perfect for the summer months is their “Hamo-don” (1,200 yen).  Hamo is a conger eel regarded as a summer specialty in Kyoto.  Carefully prepared conger eel is grilled to perfection as their homemade secret sauce is poured over it almost continuously for about 10-15 minutes.  The rich aroma of sauce and charcoal will surely stimulate the diner’s nose and stomach.  For dinner, the kaiseki course menu is recommended (from 5,000 yen) as well as other a la carte menu items.  Tanyoshi’s representative dish is “Kamo Manju.”  Minced chicken and grated sticky potato are mixed and covered with rice cake crumble then steamed.  When cooked, a thick broth is poured over it.  This is an absolutely must-try at Tanyoshi.
