Unique matcha cuisine in Uji; one of the best green tea production places of Japan

Tatsumiya is located in Uji; one of the most famous green tea growing areas in Japan, and offers dishes using matcha powdered green tea.  The place started as a tea retailer around 1840 and switched to a restaurant in 1913.  Their matcha dishes are made under the unique concept of “eating green tea.”  A typical lunch course consists of matcha tofu (soy bean curd), fresh matcha flavored yuba (soy milk skin) mixed with crabmeat and cha-soba (green tea flavored buckwheat noodles).  Charaku Yuzen Set is another of their popular menu offerings, a Kyoto style kaiseki course using Sencha (green tea leaves) and Gyokuro (shaded green tea leaves) all of which one can enjoy the lovely flavor of green tea and quality seasonal ingredients.  Located next to the Uji River, beautiful scenery can be enjoyed not only from the restaurant but also from the boat during the summer while savoring the food.  It is indeed a lovely place to pay a visit while exploring the Uji area.
