The Heisei modern style “downtown Teisyokuya”
soto looks just like a stylish cafe though their main dishes from the menu are “teishoku”, Japanese style combination meals. The large sign at the entrance saying “Meshi”, meaning rice or a meal in Japanese, stands there as if it is reminding people that it is a Teisyokuya (Japanese style bistro). Half of their customers order the lunch set of the day (680 yen). Main dishes vary, from grilled fish, chicken teriyaki and a rice bowl with toppings, to please their regular customers. Dried seaweed sheet, natto (fermented soy beans) and deep fried horse mackerel are available as side dishes with the combination meals. soto stays open till late, which means it is very convenient for those who missed the chance to eat during meal times. A cup of coffee after the meal can be enjoyed for only 150 yen.
