Elegant red bean paste dressed in a white skin and wrapped with a fragrant cherry leaf makes their delicious Sakura-mochi
This Japanese sweet shop is located in Arashiyama surrounded by scenic beauty. Their famous item is the white Sakura-mochi (rice cake normally available only in spring) called “Arashiyama Sakura Mochi” (179 yen). This sophisticated sweet has elegantly sweetened red bean paste, which matches perfectly with the slightly salted Japanese cherry leaf wrapping the cake. It has a beautiful appearance of pale pink and makes for a lovely souvenir and gift, especially for women. Honwarabi-Mochi (made with bracken starch powder, water and sugar) is a wonderful summer sweet and also their Yokan (red bean jelly made with red bean flour, yam flour, wheat flour, arrowroot flower, and sugar) is sweetened just right. A variety of other sweets are also available. This is one of the shops you should not miss while exploring the Arashiyama area.
