Colorful and elegant paintings on ceramic works representing “cute” for adults
This little ceramic and glassware shop is located by the main gate of the Nanzen-ji Temple complex. The owner, Hiroko Kaji, collects fine wares, mainly created by young artists, with her own eyes and sense of art. Many pieces in her collection particularly attract women, probably due to their pretty appearance. Especially, the female ceramic artist Miwako Watabe creates cute designs on her ceramic works which have been steadily popular in the shop. For example, one of her plates has an elegant pattern deriving from the design of Buddha’s necklace. The pattern drawn on the edge of the plate improves a dish’s appearance when served. The photo is of a piece by Miwako Watabe (9,450 yen).
