A variety of seasonal Kyoto vegetables
Yontora is a vegetables shop that is recognized to be one of the best in the city by professional chefs and cooks in Kyoto. Seasonal vegetables color the front of the shop every day: bamboo shoots for spring, Kamo Nasu eggplant and Manganji Togarashi pepper for summer, Matsutake mushroom, the King of autumn taste, for autumn and Shogoin Daikon white radish and Kabura turnip for winter. December is a particularly interesting month to see what they have in the shop since there will be a number of seasonal specials, such as Kyoto carrot, Ebi Imo taro, Iwai Daikon radish, Horikawa Gobo burdock, for preparation for the New Year’s dishes. Not only vegetables but also white miso (soy bean paste) from Yamari (a popular miso shop in Kyoto) is also available.
