Elegant kaiseki course in a formal Japanese room

Yoshida Sansou is a classical Japanese inn and restaurant located amidst Mt. Yoshida, one of the 36 mountains and hills ringing eastern Kyoto.  The formal building was originally built as a villa for one of the imperial family members in 1932.  They welcome guests with fine Kyoto cuisine using fresh seasonal seafood and locally harvested vegetables served in a Japanese room overlooking a beautiful Japanese garden.  Recommended menu for lunch is their mini-Kaiseki course, which Yoshida Sanso has served for over 30 years.  The plate on which the assorted appetizers are served has a special meaning as it is in the form of a leaf, the same form as it was used by the imperial members.  In addition to the restaurant, there is also a casual café, Shinko-kan, on the hill where diners can enjoy a fine view of Kyoto City.  Autumn is an especially popular season as vivid colored leaves surround the café.
